Tips

  • Power or squat: Power snatches are typically faster for most athletes unless you have excellent squat snatch technique.
  • Touch and go vs. singles: Know your strength. Elite athletes go unbroken; most should plan quick singles or doubles.
  • Hook grip: Use it. Your grip will fail without it at this weight and volume.
  • Hip contact: Drive the bar with your hips, not your arms. The arms guide; the hips provide power.
  • Scale the weight: If 135/95 lb is your 1RM, scale down significantly. You should be able to do at least 5 unbroken when fresh.
  • Catch position: Lock out aggressively overhead. Soft elbows lead to missed lifts and wasted energy.
