When the word cardio is mentioned, most people probably think about running. While running is a great way to get some cardio in your life, it's definitely not the only way. The most commonly accepted definition of cardio is anything that increases your heart and breathing rate while improving the function of your cardiovascular system by placing a demand on your heart and lungs.
There is no one best cardio exercise! You have to find out which exercises work best for you. Running, burpees, and jump rope are all popular cardio choices, but anything that raises your heart rate and challenges your cardiovascular system can count. That means that non-gym activities like raking a pile of leaves or dancing for fun can be cardio. We have included some effective cardio movements below.
